Big Island Revealed 7th Edition App Reviews

Ok now your starting to really tick me off. You deleted my last attempt to leave a comment. This app took my money but wont let me download it. Ive been on a couple different wifi spots. I have LTE 5 bars of service. Ive reset my iPhone 6. So give me back my money!!! Or....real simple, you allow me to download this app.

Ive purchased travel e-books on a few occasions, and have generally been disappointed. Travel books require flipping back and forth between pages, and e-books have never been good for that (neither Kindle nor iBooks). But THIS is DIFFERENT! Finally, a travel book that takes full advantage of all the benefits of the mobile medium! Find a cool destination, put it in favorites for easy reference; see reference to a travel service, touch it and open a link to its website to make a reservation; want to go to a location, click on "directions" and go to the map app on your device with the coordinates already entered in; want to find sights, restaurants, and services near where you are, just tap on the map in the app and get a full listing with distances and details. This is well worth the price!

Although I wish it was bundled with the e-book, this app is very useful for travel to the Big Island of Hawaii. Very easy to use!

My family and I were able to maximize our vacation in Hawaii thanks to this app and the corresponding book. Easily some of the best produced travel literature out there right now.

The book is recognized as the definitive guide to the big island outside (and inside) of the resort bubble. Written by a local with exhaustive personal research. And the app does what too few other apps of books of any kind do, namely take advantage of the format to cross-reference and use your tablets or phones locating capability (note, iPads without wireless data do not have GPS). There is no substitute for this app other than the book.

I had the "blue book", and discovered the app when we sitting in a restaurant in Volcano. I downloaded it right on the spot and it was wonderful. I do have an iPad with data so I was able to bring up info and maps where ever we went. Discovered many new places along the way. Mahalo

I emailed app developer and havent heard back. My iPhone is up to date, so I know its not my device.

After you pay for the app, it loads to about 50% and restarts to the beginning and does this over and over again. Not cool at all

Bought this yesterday and it still wont download!! Wouldve been nice if it downloaded in seconds like every other app Ive purchased. Dont buy this app unless you want to be disappointed. Stick with the book.

We have used the Revealed series for Kauai and the Big Island (Hawaii) and even have a copy we have referred to at home Oahu. We have a five year old version of the Big Island Book so downloaded the app. It is up to date and accurate. Rarely disappointed in the recommendations and suggestions! It takes forever to download so make sure you are on high speed internet when you do but the interactive map works and the weather updates have been great.

I have used an older version of this app on previous trips to the Big Island and found it very useful. Especially like being able to see what’s nearby. Unfortunately, all the favorites I marked in the old app are not transferable to the new one (in fact the old version of the app itself simply disappeared although it still appears as part of my app list in iTunes) so it’s kind of annoying I have to repurchase and search all over again for those places I’d like to revisit. Should probably think of it as buying a digital guidebook where you have to purchase the new version rather than an app that gets updated.

Maps are great

Im preparing for my Big Island adventure. I bought the Big Island Revealed book about a month ago and started reading feverishly so we would not waste any time getting our bearings. I was still struggling with how we would successfully figure out how to see EVERYTHING in each area of the island... THEN I found this app!!! What a great way to fully understand the book and where I specifically am on the island at all times! I simply save my favorites and then review them to ensure that I have seen all my "must sees"! The app does appear to have all the information in the book too! All and all a sound investment. I had no trouble downloading the app (took about 2 min with a strong wifi signal).

This app is VERY informative, inclusive and entertaining! I truly enjoy just reading and learning about the Big Island because this app is so well done. I used it last year while we were there, but only found it 3 days before we left. We go back next week and I was more than willing to purchase the newest version to help with this trip.

Big Island Revealed 7th edition app surpasses our expectations for a Hawaii travel guide on any island. We have used your books for every island we have visited, but we frequent the Big Island. On this trip, we carried the book but also had the app loaded on our iPhones and iPad. The app has so many features that you just cant access as easily with the book. We love the find me feature, and then readily the app lists everything in the immediate area. My wife wishes the search was more functional for words or term searches such as mauka or makai. It took a long time to find this information and we knew it was in the book because we have read it several times in the past. Also, for an update, we have visited the green sand beach twice in the past year and found it to be chaos both times. This past week, we didnt even walk all the way to the beach because there were so many people down below. The vultures at the entrance make you crazy trying to get you to let them give you a ride into the beach in their junky old trucks. Just a note: These may be in the app, but we couldnt find them. Big Island Shave Ice in Kawaihae is probably the best shave ice we have had in 15 trips to the islands. The food truck next to it, Blue Dragon, has fantastic sliders and fries. Thank you so much for the diligent efforts you have invested in this AAA+++ app.

Weve gone to the big island often and use the revealed "blue book" every time to find recommendations and feel like we have a bit of local knowledge. Weve had some terrific adventures driving the island and stopping at interesting places identified in our location by the guide. Love having the app now even more for the convenience!

My wife and I are here for 6 months and we were told to get the book. Unfortunately, it was sold out everywhere so I found the app. We have been here for a month and already had some amazing adventures because of it! If you are headed to the big island, it is so worth the money to use this as a sort of travel guide.

I bought this app, despite peoples comments regarding organization because they also noted the content was exceptional. So far, Ive only used this in trying to plan so Ill write more when Ive tried some of the recommended places. I find it exceptionally difficult to use so far, given that the primary way find items in a specific location is to point my inaccurate finger to a position on the map. The index is based on vendor/park name, with no alternate index by town. There is no filter function in search or geolocation results, so I cant eliminate useless noise, like hotels (because I already have a place to stay, thank you).

We purchased the "Blue Book" as soon as we started planning our trip. I found the app about a week prior to leaving. The map link gets used all the time, and was critical to finding out-of-the-way places. A special note-- all of the blue diamonds are listed in the index under Real Gems.

Bought this for our trip to the Big Island in March 2016, and used it every day. The killer feature for me is viewing a map of the entire island, tapping on a general location, and having it pull up a list of restaurants, beaches, hikes, etc. right in that area. You can then link any of these places of interest to Apple Maps to get directions. On an esthetic note: for the iPad, the app seems just like an enlarged version of the iPhone app, so the text comes up quite large. Would be nice if they created a version formatted for the larger iPad screen.
